The challenge now is to initiate an honest conversation about the bilateral relationship, based on acknowledgment of Wahhabism’s role in fueling the rise of Sunni radicalism.

Given how strained the bilateral relationship is – a situation long in the making – that was probably the best outcome that could reasonably be expected. But it is not enough.
