Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez represents ideas - a preference for revolution over reform, and the belief that Yankee imperialism solely responsible for Latin America’s problems - that have long stifled the region's political and economic growth. But his ten years in power also serve as a warning to those who would ignore the need to address social inequality.
